Could this spell the end of expensive, heavy and short-lived, corrosive lead acid batteries? I’ve been researching about ways to use a mechanical means of storage versus the chemical methods using batteries. The best alternative I could come up with was to use energy when available to lift a weight (as high as possible) and store that potential energy for later use.

So after thinking about this idea, I did a little research on flywheel energy storage and came across a company (www.velkess.com) that only months ago successfully raised funds for a final prototype.
